Smile és un tema musical creat per Charles Chaplin el 1936 per a la seva pel·lícula Temps moderns.
El 1954 John Turner i Geoffrey Parsons hi van posar aquesta lletra:
- Smile, though your heart is aching,
- Smile, even though it's breaking.
- When there are clouds in the sky-
- You'll get by.
- If you smile through your fear and sorrow,
- Smile and maybe tomorrow
- You'll see the sun come shining through
- For you.
- Light up your face with gladness,
- Hide every trace of sadness.
- Although a tear may be ever so near,
- That's the time you must keep on trying,
- Smile, what's the use of crying?
- You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
- If you just smile.
Aquest mateix any 1954 Nat King Cole la va enregistrar, en una versió memorable:
Us pot fer gràcia comparar-la amb una versió que en va fer l'any 2007 el baix-baríton alemany Thomas Quasthoff (nascut el 1959). És una versió molt lenta, que només una bona veu permet fer:
